Yahoo! Mail uses proprietary protocols. Unless you have purchased Yahoo¡¯s POP3 mail service, you will need a Yahoo! Mail to POP3 conversion utility. YahooPOPs! is such a free utility. It can be downloaded here:
http://yahoopops.sourceforge.net
Following is a description that you can follow step by step to setup YahooPOPs! and SpamWeed.
- Install SpamWeed if it is not yet installed. While you are shown the "Mail Client Setup Guide" during the SpamWeed Setup, please simply click "Close".
- Install YahooPOPs!. Follow the YahooPOPs installation wizard. After installation, the installer will launch YahooPOPs for you. Now you will have an error message saying that the port is being used by another program (which is SpamWeed). Click on OK to dismiss this message, right-click on the YahooPOPs! tray icon, select "Configure". Under the "Advanced Preferences/Network" branch, change the POP3 Port to 111 (or another unused value if 111 does not work). Save settings. Right-click on YahooPOPs! tray icon and select EXIT. Then re-launch YahooPOPs from your system's start menu.
- Setup POP3 Account. Create a new POP3 account in your email client (such as Outlook Express). The Incoming Mail (POP3) Server of this account is 127.0.0.1, the POP3 Port should be set to 111, which is YahooPOPs! listening port, if you have set it on another port in previous step, please use the port number you set. Finally, set the password of this account to your Yahoo! mail password.
After the above setup, you can use your Yahoo! Mail account with SpamWeed like a normal POP3 account.
